Workers’ Day 2025: Nigeria Must Put Youth Empowerment First

On Workers’ Day, Comrade G.A. Oyeyiola, Convener of the Conscientious Youth Empowerment Foundation, renewed his call for decisive action to address Nigeria’s rising youth unemployment.

He stressed that as thousands of young people complete their studies each year, many return home with no meaningful job opportunities—a trend he described as deeply troubling.

Beyond job creation, Comrade Oyeyiola urged the government to establish structured mentorship platforms that link young Nigerians with seasoned professionals.

According to him, mentorship is a powerful tool that can equip emerging talents with practical guidance, industry insights, and valuable networks needed to navigate today’s competitive job market.

He also highlighted a growing concern around data protection for youth seeking employment. With many job seekers vulnerable to misuse of their personal information on digital platforms, he called for stronger policies that safeguard the data and privacy of young Nigerians.

Comrade Oyeyiola pressed policymakers to act with urgency, warning that failing to harness the creativity and potential of the nation’s youth could squander Nigeria’s demographic advantage.

He emphasized the need for bold, targeted initiatives that support innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable job growth.

As the country marks Workers’ Day, his message serves as a powerful reminder: truly honouring workers means tackling the structural challenges facing Nigeria’s young population.

Without swift and deliberate action, the vision of a more secure and prosperous future may remain out of reach.
